Introducing the New Isuzu 2.2 Litre Diesel

Isuzu has debuted a new 2.2 litre turbo diesel engine at the Commercial Vehicle Show 2026, replacing the renowned 1.9TD with improved efficiency and a new 8 speed automatic or 6 speed manual transmission.

The turbo-charged four cylinder, with a new electronically controlled fuel injection pump with intercooler and double overhead camshaft technology delivers 400Nm of torque and 163PS, ensuring on road, off road and towing capabilities. Aiding its proficiency is a shift-on-the-fly four-wheel drive system which allows switching between high gear two and four wheel drive at speeds of up to 62mph. Additionally, a low-gear four wheel drive mode, locking rear differential and rough terrain mode is standard across the range.

The streamlined range of cab options is comprised of Single Cab, Extended Cab and Double Cab configurations. The entry-level Utility model is available in Single and Extended Cab, while the DL20 specification comes exclusively as a Double Cab. The DL40 specification can now be ordered as an Extended Cab and Double Cab, while the top-of-the-range V-Cross is offered as a Double Cab.

Externally, the new 2.2 D-Max is defined by a range of redesigned features to enhance the rugged presence of the award-winning pick-ups design. This includes a new front grille to distinguish the 2026+ model year, with a new fully black design for the Single Cab Utility and various colour options across the rest of the range. New style sidesteps are also included on the DL40 and V-Cross, with an Urban Moss metallic paint joining the 8 strong palette. DL40 and V-Cross models also include the new 360-degree surround view camera deploying digital cameras from the front radiator grille, tailgate and wing mirrors, displaying this on the centre screen allowing for easy driving whether navigating rough terrain, manoeuvring tricky areas or to help parking.

The D-Max 2.2 Utility Single Cab and Double Cab specifications include 16” and 18” steel wheels respectively. Other models feature new 18” alloy designs with variations in silver (DL20), grey metallic (DL40) and a rugged dark grey metallic (V-Cross). New Dunlop 265/60R18 low-rolling resistance tyres incorporate a revised rubber compound delivering a 7% improvement in fuel efficiency, as well as a 7% improvement in friction on wet surfaces.

Inside, the new 2.2 D-Max incorporates new seat designs with enhanced cloth and leather trims, with leather coming as standard on the DL40 and V-Cross.

The 2.2 comes with a 5 year/125,000mi warranty, UK and EU roadside assistance and will be available from July 2026.
