What is the new Range Rover GT?

JLR have announced the fifth member of the Range Rover family, accompanying the Range Rover, Range Rover Sport, Range Rover Evoque and Range Rover Velar.

Described as a “new expression of the grand tourer formula”, it has been created to deliver long-haul comfort, effortless performance and Range Rover’s signature breadth of capability. It has been revealed with a bespoke camouflage design created by JLRs in-house creative teams, hiding the major details and features of the new GT whilst highlighting its sleek silhouette and coupe proportions.

The camouflage was inspired by the landscape surrounding Gaydon, the home of Range Rover’s creative and engineering teams, using local topographic contours as the basis for the flowing gold pattern seen across the wrap that evokes the GTs grand touring character and sense of journey. The digital, pixel aesthetic draws inspiration from the advanced technologies embedded and “hidden” within the vehicle, reinforcing the Range Rover GT as the most technologically sophisticated Range Rover ever created.

Inside, the GT is shaped by the same principles that define the exterior: purity, precision and quiet modernity. It features a single screen design with a driver display in place of a traditional instrument cluster, a concealed air vent running across the width of the cabin with a clear horizontal graphic – the Range Rover signature, with a suite of beautiful, tactile and architectural materials throughout the cabin. Every element of the interior has been considered to create a “sanctuary of calm”, with a focus on reduced visual and acoustic noise.

Range Rover GT will initially be launched as a battery electric vehicle (BEV) – the first all-electric Range Rover developed from the new EMA platform, manufactured in Halewood, UK. Flexibility is planned to be added in the future with a full Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV) option later in the lifecycle.

Martin Limpert, Managing Director of Range Rover said -
“The Range Rover GT will redefine the grand touring segment with the ability to deliver beautiful and engaging GT poise, proportions and long distance refinement while offering capabilities no conventional GT can match. We have spent the last few years working obsessively on the fundamentals of the GT formula, reinterpreted in a sophisticated, uniquely Range Rover way. The result is the most car like, yet unmistakably capable, Range Rover ever created, now possible on our electrified EMA architecture – complementing our existing powertrain portfolio to deliver a complete set of options for every customer need. Its blend of effortless EV performance, first‑class long‑haul refinement and all‑terrain capability is pure Range Rover; while its calming interior previews our vision of a modern grand tourer.”

More details about the new Range Rover GT will follow later this year.
